Helpful Tips

  1. Before the day of a test, find out exactly what to bring and where to go to take the exam.
  2. Get plenty of rest the night before being well rested will help you think clearly and be more alert.
  3. Eat properly. You dont want to test on an empty stomach. Foods that contain protein and are low in sugar will keep your concentration at an optimum level.
  4. Arrive a few minutes early. Youll want to find the testing area, bathrooms, and ask any last-minute questions without feeling rushed.
  5. Relax and keep a positive attitude! The more relaxed you feel, the more you will remember for the test. If you begin feeling anxious, try a technique like taking slow, deep breaths. Your muscles will relax and send more oxygen to your brain.
  6. Preview the test: How many questions are on the test? How much time is allowed? Having a clear idea will help you divide your time and complete the test.
  7. Carefully read the directions for each question. Many true/false, matching, multiple-choice, and fill-in the blank questions will give you clues to help recognize the correct answer. If the directions ask you to find the best answer, it isnt necessarily asking you for a correct answer.
  8. Check your answer before continuing. For an answer to be correct, EVERY part of the question must be correct. If you do not know the answer to a question, try to eliminate one or more of the choices. Then, make an educated choice from one of the remaining answers.
  9. Once you finish your test, take time to review your work and make sure that you have answered every question. Studies show that the first answer you choose tends to be correct.
  10. Try your best! Effectively demonstrating your skills and strengths will help your school put you on the right path toward a successful future.
